Subject + was were + verb

• The books were written in 1971.

• The Turkish Republic was established in 1923.

• We were all invited to his birthday party.

 
  

The thieves stole the diamond. → The diamond was stolen by the thieves. 

My father built this house. → This house was built by my father.

Somebody cleaned the kitchen. → The kitchen was cleaned.

Ali washed the cars . → The cars were washed by Ali.
